Unique Endeavour
The Elite Challenge will be undertaken by fitness enthusiast and
personal trainer, David “Mac” McKinnon. Mac from Cirencester a former
Army Physical Training Instructor competes in running, triathlon and
cycling events around the country. He is no stranger to arduous exercise but as Mac explains "I can assure
you that this challenge is like nothing I will have endured before even
in the Army. The magnitude of the task is frightening and the road
ahead is very long, literally! Just to let you know how big a feat this
is we are estimating that the average speed will be around 10-14 miles
per hour, so based on a conservative lower speed we are looking at 45
hours for the cycling alone"

The challenge both present their own difficulties in the fact that they are both extremely physically and mentally demanding, the main being pure sleep depravation whilst doing the three peaks and cycling for over 40-45 hours in total.
One man who knows about sleep depravation is Derek Bell MBE, Patron – Hope for Tomorrow “Mac understands the fitness element but it is the sleep depravation, lack of real nourishment and the pressure of 'competition' combined with the concentration required that you really only experience on the Event. I wish him the greatest of success.”

As part of the training Mac will need to practice serious endurance training with minimal sleep. The training will see his weekly schedule increase to 20-30 hours consisting of cycling and running up to and over 10-15 hours at a time.
It is estimated that it will take in excess of 3 months to fully recover from the event.
